Somatic Cell Count in Buffalo Milk using Fuzzy Clustering and Image Processing Techniques

Resumo
Este trabalho apresenta um método automático para contagem de células somáticas (Contagem de Células Somáticas com Agrupamento Fuzzy e Processamento de Imagens, CCSAFI) em leite de búfala, que inclui a aplicação de um método de agrupamento fuzzy e técnicas de processamento de imagens. A Contagem de Células Somáticas (CCS) no leite é o principal biomarcador para avaliação da qualidade do leite e é tradicionalmente realizada por métodos exaustivos que consistem na observação visual das células em esfregaços do leite por meio de um microscópio, o que também gera incertezas associadas à interpretação humana. Diferente de outros trabalhos semelhantes, o método proposto (CCSAFI) aplica o método Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) no pré-processamento para separar as imagens (objetos) das células em grupo de acordo com a intensidade da cor. Isso contribui significativamente para o desempenho das etapas de processamento subsequentes (limiarização, segmentação e reconhecimento/identificação). Dois métodos de limiarização foram avaliados e a Tranformada de Watershed foi usada para a identificação e separação de células adjacentes. Uma análise estatística detalhada dos resultados mostrou que o método CCSAFI é capaz de fornecer resultados consistentes com os obtidos por especialistas (contagem convencional). Este método representa, portanto, uma alternativa viável para o controle de qualidade na produção de leite de búfala.
